AIDS education and training centers are related to each other. The AIDS education is important for everyone as the epidemic is spread out all over the world. It is increasing day by day. It is essential to prevent this transmission so we can control the epidemic. The AIDS education has been started on each and every place for creating awareness regarding HIV/AIDS. For example at schools, workplace, various institutions and organization. The purpose is that people should know the intensity of the disease as well as they should know the basic information about HIV. WHO (World Health Organization) has developed many campaigns related to AIDS. The organization has been working since its establishment all over the world.

AIDS Education and Training centers is a vast network that is composed of five national centers, eleven regional training centers, and over 130 linked local performance sites that furnish education on HIV as well as co-morbidities like hepatitis, tuberculosis, and sexually transmitted diseases for healthcare providers in the United States. They were (AETC) founded through federal funding from the Health Resources and Services Administration Bureau of Health Professions in the year 1987. The AETCs became a part of the Ryan WhiteHIV/AIDS Program in the year 1997. The Ryan White Program is directed by Health Resources and Services Administration HIV/AIDS Bureau.

The AETC network stands for all the fifty states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands and the six US-affiliated Pacific Jurisdictions. The centers of network are put in academic sites all over the country. They are staffed by HIV researchers, educators and clinicians.

The aim of the AECTs is to increase the number of healthcare providers educated in order to diagnose, counsel, treat and medically manage the people who are living with HIV. Moreover, educate the providers for preventing them from high-risk behavior that lead to the transmission of HIV. AETC tools contain targeted training to multidisciplinary health providers through practiced clinical consultation; concentrated clinical rotations and preceptorships; seminars; workshops; technical assistance; and hands-on supervised clinical experiences.

The topics that generally include in the AECT training program are adherence, opportunistic infections, prevention methods, antiretroviral therapy, and substance abuse. There are more than 125,000 participants who have been trained in a year by the AETC. The people who are trained most of them include nurses, physicians and physician assistants. Moreover, the AECT provides technical help or assistance to the healthcare clinics that furnish HIV care and treatment. Some of common issues like client scheduling, community linkages and agency needs assessment as well as grants management.

National Centers
