HCV Treatment

The word hepatitis means an inflammation of the liver without showing a specific cause. It generally occurs due to one of the three viruses namely hepatitis A virus, the hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C. HCV (hepatitis C virus) is one of the viruses that causes chronic liver disease. The major feature of hepatitis C is its tendency to exist in long period of time and in which the liver injury continues for prolonged period.

Chronic hepatitis C differs greatly in its way and results. At the one end of the range an infected person does not get any symptoms though he/she has got infected with the disease. On the other hand some patients having severe hepatitis C have high levels of the virus (HCV RNA) in serum, elevated serum enzymes. There is an intermediate position where some patients have no symptoms or few symptoms. Chronic hepatitis C can be the reason for getting infected with cirrhosis, liver failure, and liver cancer.

Symptoms and signs of the diseaseThe symptoms are normally fatigue, nausea, poor appetite, liver pain as well as muscle and joint pains.

Transmission and risk factors

Hepatitis C is mainly spread by contact with contaminated blood and blood products. Moreover blood transfusion, use of shared needles, syringes and injection equipment also contribute to the spreading out the HSV in the United States. Hepatitis C that spreads through transfusion of blood has almost disappeared. At present the use of injection drug is the most general factor for the infection of the disease. Nevertheless, some patients who get infected with hepatitis C do not have a predictable risk factor or known revelation to infected blood or to drug use.

The most general risk factors for obtaining hepatitis C are:

  • Blood transfusion before June 1992 as most sensitive tests for anti-Hepatitis C were brought in for blood screening
  • Injecting drug in the body that is already used by a infected person
  • Hemodialysis for kidney failure
  • Other risk factors that have to some extent increased risk for hepatitis C are:
  • Having sexual intercourse with a infected person or having various sex partners
  • Using of cocaine through intranasal way by using shared paraphernalia

    Cure/ treatment for Hepatitis C

    Alpha Interferon

There are various recombinant forms of alpha interferon which have been introduced. There various formulations such as alfa-2a, alfa-2b, consensus interferon are available and can be used as a therapy for hepatitis C. However these standard forms are substituted by peginterferon. Peginterferon that is alpha interferon has been customized chemically by the adding together a large inert molecule of polyethylene glycol. Peginterferon can be provided weekly. It provides a more steady level of interferon in the blood. On the other hand standard interferon must be given a number of times weekly. It provides intermittent and fluctuating levels. As it is because of the easy administration peginterferon has swapped standard interferon both as a combination therapy as well as monotherapy for HSV.

The given treatments of HCV would provide you the information regarding the HSV cure.
