Prevent HIV Transmission

The HIV does not transmit easily. The transmission of HIV is possible only when a person comes in the contact with HIV infected bodily fluids like semen, vaginal fluids while having sex. There are several ways through which a person can get infected with HIV. For example unprotected sex with an infected partner, through contaminated blood, breastfeeding etc. HIV does not spread through mosquito bites, sharing household items, sneezing or coughing etc. Shared bodily fluids may be cause for HIV but no documented cases are found because of that i.e. saliva, sweat or tears. Sore or cuts in the mouth can cause for spreading HIV during kissing. So it is suggested that avoid kissing. You may have cuts or sores because of flossing of teeth, gum diseases, or because of eating the hot or pointed food. You can only be infected when HIV enters through your bodily fluids in your body. Vertical transmission can be the reason of the transmission of HIV from a mother to a child. It can happen during the pregnancy period or while delivering the child as the child comes in the contact with the bodily fluids of a mother. We can prevent HIV transmission by simply following the given guidelines.

Let us see the information about how to prevent HIV transmission

Sexual Activity

You can avoid the risk of transmission of HIV if you follow abstinence (not having sex). You can follow the safe activities that include erotic massage, masturbation, and kissing, as well as mutual masturbation. If you and your sex partner are not infected with HIV, then you can have a sex in monogamous relationship. As well as you both should be HIV negative and sex with only each other. You can use condoms for reducing the risk of getting infected with HIV. The only thing you have to do is use them properly as they are not hundred percent safe. You can avoid the risk of getting infected with STDs by using condoms. There are some chemical that can be used for avoiding unwanted pregnancy, but they do not prevent HIV infection.

Drug Use

If you are addicted to drugs then you may be at high risk behavior as the drug addiction may affect on your decision power. You may forget to use the condom while having sex. If you are using reused needle that are already used by an infected person them you can be infected by HIV. So the best way of preventing the infection is to avoid drug addiction. There are some communities who have started the exchanging program. In this program they provide clean and new needles.

Vertical Transmission

Almost twenty-five percent of babies would be infected if the HIV positive women do take the treatment during pregnancy. The risk can come down if a woman takes AZT during pregnancy and delivery as well as her new born baby should be given the same medicine. C section can be useful as it keeps the baby out of contact with the bodily fluids that are created by a mother during delivery. However, if a mother's viral load is below 1000, it doesn't decrease the chances of getting infected with HIV. The other possibility is that if a baby drinks milk of his/her mother HIV can be transmitted to baby. If other options are available then they should be used.

Contact with Blood

HIV spreads out through the contaminated or infected blood. So one should be careful while helping who is bleeding. The reason behind it is if you have any cuts on your body and the infected blood comes in the contact with that cuts then HIV will be transmitted to you. If you are donating the blood or receiving the blood from anyone make sure that it should be tested first as contaminated blood can be the reason of getting infected with HIV.

You can prevent HIV transmission if you follow certain guidelines that are given here.
