Symptoms of AIDS

HIV stands for human immuno deficiency virus. HIV causes for developing the AIDS. AIDS is stand for Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome. HIV attacks on the CD4 cells that are the key cells in the human body. The function of these cells is to protect the immune system from the diseases and infections. The immune system is composed of the CD4 cells. These cells fight with the cancers and other infections. First, the virus hides in the CD4 cells and replicates itself in the cells. It gradually starts to weaken the immune system. Once it overcomes with the whole immune systems or damages the immune system severely the body succumbs to the disease. Moreover the person becomes the victim of AIDS. However there are symptoms of AIDS that can be seen in infected person.

Early symptoms of HIV

HIV leads to develop AIDS so it would be essential to learn about the early symptoms of HIV. Flu-like illness is one of the symptoms of HIV. Nevertheless in some other cases it might be possible that they may not appear at all. There are some symptoms like fatigue; short term memory loss, weight loss etc. which have appeared after developing the infection of HIV.

The early symptoms includes

  • Tiredness
  • Headache

Some common symptoms of HIV

These symptoms may take eight to ten years to appear

AIDS is the most developed stage of HIV infection. All HIV infected people who have less than 200 CD4 cells per micro liter of blood can be defined as AIDS infected people. The definition also contains twenty six conditions that are general in advanced HIV disease. These conditions include infections caused by, fungi, parasites, bacteria, viruses and other organisms. Opportunistic are general in patients with AIDS. Almost every organ system is affected by the disease. There are some common symptoms that are given below:

  • Difficult or painful swallowing
  • Mental symptoms such as confusion and forgetfulness
  • Severe and persistent diarrhea
  • Coma
  • Cough and shortness of breath
  • Seizures and lack of coordination
  • Vision loss
  • Nausea, abdominal cramps, and vomiting
  • Weight loss and extreme fatigue
  • Fever
  • Severe headaches with neck stiffness

People who are infected with AIDS are susceptible to develop different diseases like cervical cancer, Kaposi sarcoma and lymphomas that are known to be cancers of the immune system. Kaposi sarcoma can lead to develop or cause brown, reddish, round and purple spots that are developed in the mouth. Once you get diagnosed with AIDS the average survival time has been evaluated to be two or three years.
